Quotography--Open Theme.

I took some nice photos of these Dawn Redwood trees a few weeks ago at the Arnold Arboretum in Boston (Redwoods in Boston, who knew!), just as they were beginning to get that green haze that comes right before the buds burst out.
I remember thinking about this quote while I was making the photographs.

I created a threshold layer from the original and set the blend mode to multiply, then added a texture from Nancy Claeys from A Rural Journal, set to color burn.

Mandarin Orange Monday--Coffee shop

Part of the entrance to a coffee shop in Fells Point, Baltimore. Duplicated the layer, set to soft light, texturized the top layer and posterized the copy od the original photo.

Take a Word--Beautiful

I've never seen a smiling face that was not beautiful.  ~Author Unknown

Photo found on Google, painted with watercolor technique and overlaid onto Jerry ffom Shadowhouse's new creations, Splatter Masks.

Take a word--Vintage Beauty

Beauty must be natural, fair and clear skin due to good health, rosy cheeks due to excitement
and a zest for life. Interesting eyes are brought by interesting thoughts and a sharp, educated mind.

SPA--Soar

SOAR is what spirit does when it is happy and free.  It's not about actual flying or even leaving the ground. the wings of the spirit are ethereal, internal and not easily recognized.

A boarder, snow or skate, a tiny child with a huge imagination-- may SOAR as high or higher than any dancer, pilot, astronaut, bird or angel.

Three Muses--The Written Word

a quote from one of my favorite authors, John Irving.  I began my love affair with his work through the movies--Setting Free the Bears, Hotel New Hampshire, The World according to Garp--the movies are so rich and full of nuance. And then I read some of the novels--and they were even richer--fascinating characters, gorgeous, succulent prose, quirky and funny, sad and ultimately quite profound.
Who could ask for more...

THe background is made with textures from Textures for Layers Flickr group (a GREAT resource), the font is Impact, with a letterpress style applies and the butterfly is a brush.

A botanical illustration found on Wikimedia Commons, girl from itKuPiLLi, dragon from  Russian Dutch Heart, blue lizard and tentacles from my own stash (I LOVE that tentacle).

Collage Obsession--Faces

I love fabulous faces, especially those dramatic black and white photos of striking women.  They are not always beauties, but they are ALWAYS compelling--and I love to take their black and whiteness and zap it with pop art color!

Crazy Amigos--Banners

Playing with itKuPiLLi

I recently purchased some great new kits from Deviant Scrap and the amazing creative mind of itKuPiLLi.  A Yahoo group I co-manage has chosen her as our design inspiration for April.  BUT, thanks to the vagaries of Yahoo, I can't post my images there... so, they are here.
