Documented Life--Week 5 and the cover, in progress

The cover, decorated with washi tape--still in progress.

Week 5--Doodle a border.

Doodling does not come easily to me.  It's one of the things my inner critic jumps on and shouts--NOT GOOD ENOUGH--TOO MESSY--WHAT IS THAT?
I am trying to loosen up and let go, practicing on index cards.  I may finish this year's ICAD challenge before it even starts!

Linking to Sunday Post Card Art--Faces

In the style of LK (Lynne) Perella

Those of you into mixed media and stamping know the work of Lynne Perella.  Our challenge at DigitalMania this week is to create digital work in her style. Here is my offering.

a portrait of Caterina Cornaro, Queen of Cyprus; overlaid with blocks of transparent teal and yellow,  an art paper from ItKuPiLLi and painted with PS brushes.

Journal 52 project--always makes me smile

Digitally altered photo from Wikimedia Commons, printed and collages over watercolor paper painted with acrylics and Lumiere paints and oil pastels.  I wish this scan showed the shimmer of these colors..  I go by this pond every day.  It's frozen solid now, and it's only a foot or two deep.  I always wonder if the owners catch the fish and keep them in a tank all winter, or if they leave them in the ice.  They have survived a few winters, though and it just makes my day whenever I see these BIG fish in this little pond.

Collage Obsession--Radiant Orchid

not a big fan of purple, although I used a pantone chart of shades (?) of the color and had some fun playing with brushstrokes.  And I adore the photo of Edna St Vincent Millay, that I altered with the Threshold filter to look like a stamp.

The Documented Life Project--Week 3--Add an envelope

I have been exploring a type of "found" poetry, created by selecting random words and phrases from a page of text, and blacking out the rest.  This spread is made from an envelope from Christie, which contained some really nice papers and a great zen ATC.
the left sude is a piece of mail art, I tore in half and found the poetry there.
...I think I will put that ATC back into the envelope.

Take a Word--Moon

Blue Moon with Owl.

The moon is a cut-out, the branch is a brush, the owl is-would you believe-a font (Chouette Alors, found on Dafont), and the background is a painted with brushes piece with a bokeh overlay.

Soartful--a strange little house--or five

The houses were cut from a dictionary page with a custom shape tool.  The birds are mine--I actually drew and colored them, scanned them and digitally cut them out.

Who knows what can happen?!

January 1 Challenge - photograph, sketch, paint or incorporate your front door.

As the door opens on our new year, we all share the bond of having an entry into our home,  our lives, ourselves.
Through the artistic medium of your choice, show us a bit of where you live in the symbol of your door, entryway or porch. Think a bit about how you can use your door to express your personality, your life, what you value.

This is the top part of the front door of my house.  It's a shabby old door, old wood, stained and varnished many times.  It has history, I think, and character.

I photographed it and altered it a bit in Photoshop, then printed it and tore it out.  I colored it with water-soluble pastels, added some of my favorite washi tape and journaled a bit.
The left page is a ghost print from my  BEST ART PRESENT EVER!, printed directly on the page .
I journaled some thoughts on doors in general.
