soartful challenge-Cherries

In doing a little research into Cherries, I came across the myth of Xi Wang Mu, the Daoist Chinese Goddess of Immortality, in whose garden the Cherries of Immortality ripen in a thousand years. She is also the highest embodiment of yin, the feminine element of life.

This got me thinking about immortality. We're really all immortal in a way, aren't we? A great deal of the "stuff" that makes each of us who we are is passed to us from our ancestors, back from the beginning of time. We, in our turn, pass it into the future through our children. So, in some part, we all exist from the beginning to the end of time. Heady stuff!

But, I ramble...

The image of the child is Googled, the cherries are from Dover. the backgrounds and textures are from T4L, and other sources I found on the web. the Chinese character is Eternity. The rest is the magic of Photoshop.

Heard a phoebe calling outside my window this morning...Spring is COMING!!!!!

  1. Is Spring really coming? I sure hope so.

This is so interesting and beautiful. The images, arrangement, colors and background are so harmonious. I even like the font that you used. Great piece and interesting post to go along with.

Thanks for being Soartful this week.

  2. I smiled as I opened your blog, and it went from the Cirque Macabre to the cheerful cherries! I love your entry, and the information that came along with it! Your comments on immortality remind me of one of the quotes from my collection:
"We all grow up with the weight of history on us. Our ancestors dwell in the attics of our brains, as they do in the spiraling chain of knowledge hidden in every cell of our bodies."

  5. How in the WoRLD did I ever miss your blog until now? I am totally in love with your art. I've had a chance to look at it this grey and cold morning after the lovely comment you left on my blog yesterday. I will definitely be back and I suspect you'll be my blog of the day very, very soon! Your art is simply gorgeous.
