Three Muses--textures and layers
Contemplation of a Tragedy
It seems that everything we do or see or even think has been colored by the unspeakable events in Newtown. Hearts everywhere are breaking with sadness for the families, classmates teachers and neighbors.

Some pieces for Digitalmania.
This week the Digitalmaniacs are taking on the style of Nicki Newfield, a British born Californian mixed media artist.
The Digitalmania group chooses a mixed media artist, and we all attempt to emulate their style using digital techniques. It's very challenging, but great fun as well.

Here's a bit about Nicki...
A few years ago, Nicki started to incorporate collage into her work. After a visit to Russia she became so intrigued with the art, especially the icons, that her work evolved into mixed media and collage on canvas.
Her current works are highly textured, combining many layers of paper and metallic paint. “When I start a new canvas, I have no idea where the process will take me. I like to incorporate renaissance and religious images, but sometimes my theme can be eliminated during the course of my layering and my finished work can take on a whimsical mood” Nicki does not work with bright colors but instead, prefers to use more muted “Tuscan” tones. Like her watercolors, she uses transparent glazes which reveal hidden images and surprises to the viewer. “I love every minute of this artistic process and the discovery in capturing the essence of a bygone era.”

Three Muses--In Your Eyes
in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes

Mandarine Orange Monday--the Honey Sellers
A photo I took several years ago at the Public Market in Seattle. These sweet ladies are beekeepers, and they are at the market most days with an amazing array of honeys. You can even taste them! We bought a jar and a loaf of bread and just ate and ate.. I still have a tiny beeswax angel, and, while it doesn't melt, on cold days when the heat is on, there's sometimes a hint of honey in the air.
Processed with Poster Edges and textures from Shadowhouse and Kim Klassen.

Three Muses - Animal Magic
We each come into this world accompanied by an animal spirit - a
significant indicator of our personal power - that walks with us on our
soul journey through space and time. These Spirit Guides are very
personal totems since they strongly reflect our inner spiritual nature.
These Life Totems are animal spirits that are with you your entire life.
They are your essence, your character, and reflect your innate core
traits. This relationship remains the same throughout your life. They
are your closest personal guides to help discover the truth of who you
are. They are always with you.
While I've never consciously tried to identify my animal spirit, I do identify with Bear.
